 DireqOpenLab

direqopenlab is a low-cost yet educationally-rich alternative computer lab solution, designed specifically for the education market, yet applicable in a variety of environments. Direqopenlab can be successfully implemented in libraries, Internet Cafes, Community facilities, universities and corporates.

This stable and complete ICT solution comprises the following:

  • A powerful server, based on the Linux operating system, with RAM geared to the number of client computers and a mirrored hard drive RAID system.

  • 'Thin-client' and diskless workstation computers, connect to the server. The solution is scalable in number and type of workstations, from refurbished 486s to brand new PCs (without the expense of disk drives and operating system). Add new workstations, easily and cost effectively!

  • Application office software compatible with industry-standard offerings, including word-processing, spreadsheets, database, presentations, internet and e-mail.

  • Wide range of Educational software, including complete curriculum-relevant software. The core component is DireqPortal, your gateway to server-based and online resources. This includes the award-winning LearnThings Educational Content, which can be bundled as part of the solution to ensure the provision of world-class learning materials.

  • A range of Internet access methods, including dial-up, leased line and VSAT. The solution is also bundled with the Direqcafe software, an Internet Cafe Management and Monitoring Tool.

This includes an Open Source School Administration Tool (codenamed OSSMS), which is the next iteration of a tool created by The Shuttleworth Foundation named SchoolTool.
