Coping with School Phobias

There are a number of reasons that one will have school phobias. Some people will have school phobias because they have had bad experiences in school. Perhaps, these students have been berated by teachers for not learning quickly enough. Or maybe, they have been picked on for being slow to learn or because they do not look a certain way. There is hope for students with school phobias because there are strategies that they can implement that they can use to cope.

Taking Online Classes

If students fear that they will be picked on for learning slow or for looking different, they can take classes online. Because modern technology has advanced so much, even students who are school aged do not have to go into a classroom setting, which is nice if they are worried about dealing with others. Online classes take all of the anxiety out that these students face.

Online classes are also beneficial because students can go at their own pace. This is helpful for students who have learning difficulties. The flexibility of online classes will enable teach disabled students to better obtain the help that they need, such as from a tutor.

Getting Support

Getting the proper support is essential for coping with school phobias because it will enable such students to get through things much easier. Support can be gained from friends, from family, or from support groups that contain people who are dealing with similar circumstances. These support groups can help these students to feel encouraged, feel motivated to continue school, and feel like they can succeed.

While school phobias can be a challenge for these students to deal with, it is possible to deal with them. With the right help and support, these students can enjoy true academic success. They can feel confident that they achieved their goals.

Computers Built for Developing Nations

We live in the era where technological advances occur at a faster and faster rate, every moment it is growing. Less than twenty years ago, barely a soul on the planet had access to computers. In fact many computers were so large, nobody would even consider it. There is a great divide between the peoples of the world when it comes to technology. Many towns in many countries have people that have never used a computer, in some they have never seen a computer.

Today, in the United States in almost every city, on any given day, most people could have access to a computer if they wanted it. Of course there are limits but most towns have a library, and in that library at the very least one can sign up to use a computer for an hour. This is access that in some communities of the world, does not exist. In some communities, access to the technology is not the only limit, in some literacy education is limited as well.

There is a company called One Laptop per Child that is attempting to bring computers to the developing nations of the world. The computer that they distribute is simple, easily networked and created specifically for use outdoors and for the needs of children in developing areas. This is a step toward balancing the technology differences among nations.

The question remains though, even though there is a divide between people that have access to a computer and those that don’t, why is it important for everyone? If your aspiration is to be a carpenter, and sell furniture to the people in your own community, maybe there is no need for a computer. It is important that like a hammer or a saw, a computer is a tool and is not needed for a healthy and happy life.
