Online learning is a great tool for those that have to balance work and school. You have the freedom to set your own schedule in between work. Of course, it still takes devotion to succeed in an online learning environment.

Research if you would do well in an online learning environment. Chances are, you’ll do fine! Online learning is sometimes considered easier than in person school. Start by looking online for how other students deal with their busy schedules or for other information on online learning.

Turn in something. If you have a lot of work to do and but a big project is due in school, work should take priority. However, even if you can’t do the project perfectly, turning in whatever you can do is better than nothing. A half finished project might get you half points, but that is way better than a zero. It shows that you at least tried.

Set aside the right amount of time. Don’t try to do college whenever – make yourself a schedule and stick to it. Bite the bullet as they say and do your work as you get it. Never save it until the last minute – or it will linger over your head until you get it done, so just do it.

Of course as any other student will tell you – it’s easier said than done. Just stick to it and you’ll feel much better in the end, with a lot less stress.

Manuevering the minefield of online schools is a daunting task. But there are a few criteria you can use to narrow down the choices. The hardest part of it all is settling on a career choice. But once you get past that obstacle, you still have literally dozen of online schools to choose from. So before you become completely bogged down in the options, your first consideration is to look at the job itself.

Even if you don’t have a specific job in mind, you can contact the company human resources department. Get an rundown of the schools that the company accepts for that individual job field. This is a very good first place to start when weeding down the list. Although some of the schools may be physical, you can always check for online offerings of the individual schools.

While the company is the best source of information for what school to attend, you also want to check the accreditation of the online school. The accreditation of a school can be easily checked. Most companies won’t accept online degrees if the school does not have an accreditation behind it.

The thing to ask all potential online schools is about the ability to transfer credits. You need this option if you decide to change careers. In the normal course of college, many people change their minds about the career they want to pursue. Even those that get a late start on their careers will need this flexibility.

Online schools are numerous and it is essential that you find the right one.

Attending School As An Older Adult

Life has a way of disrupting plans for college. Whatever the reason, college was once a lost dream. However, that dream has become resurrected for many older individuals. With stories of grandmas graduating college, college is now an opportunity that even older adults can take advantage of. But for many adults, attending college with college kids is a scary prospect.

The age gap is definitely a situation where some uncomfortable socialization takes place. It can be hard to relate with the difference in interests. There are definitely different priorities between older adults and those who are just of high school. The attitude in learning is certainly different. But that doesn’t mean that some sort of connection can be made with fellow classmates. After all, they do have a similar goal of completing college. Even if you don’t socialize outside of the classroom, you still can open up a path of communication. If you are terrified of going in person, there is always the online option.

Another fear that older adults face is one of the inability to grasp the material presented. Older adults naturally have more things going on such as family obligations and finding the time and quiet place to study. Such things can be obstacles for getting a college education. Sometimes, they are even a distraction for college kids. You just have to set your boundaries and create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Even if it means sending the kids with the husband out an extra errands or on an extra long ice cream trip.

It is natural to be apprehensive about college. Everyone at some point is intimidated by the big buildings, the crowds, the classes and the people. Even though you are more mature about some things at this age, college can still make you feel like a little kid on your first day at school. Courage and confidence are your most important tools to doing well in college.

Title New Technologies Open up new job Market

With the world in dire financial straights it seems only right to profile new technologies and use them for a little light at the end of the tunnel. One such new technology is the harnessing of wind power; wind turbines are popping up in the hills and open, windswept plains across the US, Europe and parts of Asia. And they don’t run themselves, although it looks like they do.

It would be a smart move to get schooled on mechanics and operations of these monstrosities. People who can work on them are few, and it’s an open, well-paying trade right now. It’s so popular that companies are tripping over each other trying to get in on the world-wide clean energy wave, but there’s no glut of windmill techs for them to pick through and hire.

New Technologies Need New Technicians

It’s a mechanical job and an electronic device job, so schooling is required, and a fear of heights must not be present. Though a worker may have to climb to the top to do maintenance of some kind, they are safely strapped and clipped to the structure so even a fall wouldn’t be life threatening. It’s windy way up there, that’s true, but the company has a responsibility to protect and train all it’s employees in safety while working their jobs.

Climbing up the stories-tall windmills is done inside the structure; that’s why ladders all the way up aren’t seen on the outside. It greatly limits the view and can only help to keep people from freezing halfway up because they looked down and panicked. At the top there’s a wide platform to crawl onto and it’s big enough to feel safe while up there, plus the employee is strapped to it.
